How To Drive Your Creativity

"I'm not creative enough"

That statement used to haunt and ring through the halls of my brain daily. Somewhere between being a kid going to any length to cure my boredom and my early adult life something happened. That something was "life"

According to Google the definition for Creativity is

"Relating to or involving the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work".

That's true for most people. As we get older we tend to drive out those creative, imaginative thoughts we used to once hold. There are many reasons for this, and while I wont go too deep on this subject, I will say a lot of it is rooted in what we were told we could do or accomplish in life.

A truly wise man once said:

"Every four-year-old is an artist. Until he or she goes to school and learns certain standards for art and therefore the student no longer remains an artist" -Source Unknown.

I couldn't agree more. I AM NOT saying school is bad. I am just saying there are certain standards and demands society has placed on us that will unknowingly suck the creativity right out!

This lie of "I'm not creative enough" is simply rooted in the thoughts you believe about yourself. Essentially, it is a lie you tell your own self and believe. In fact, It took OTHER people to point out the fact that I was creative until I saw it in myself and believed.

"Everything around you that you call life was made up by people that were no smarter than you and you can change it, you can influence it, you can build your own things that other people can use" -Steve Jobs

Sometimes it hard to rid our self of these Self-Deprecating thoughts because they are attached to a feeling which is rooted in a wrong truth we believe about ourself. Once we tackle this emotional part of ourselves, we will see things in a whole new light. What are you believing about yourself that isn't true? Confront this part of you and the results will amaze you.

Inspiration

Inspiration will spark the biggest drive in your creativity. I constantly seek out inspiration. Inspiration will keep you motivated when nothing else will.

Inspiration can be weird though. Have you ever looked at something someone else created and got overwhelmed thinking to yourself, "I'm never going to be able to do this!"? I know I have!

Comparison will kill your creativity. So stop it. Comparison will blind you and make you focus on where you are currently at instead of focusing on where you are going.

Enjoy the process and when those feelings arise, remind yourself of where you are headed.

Some people are stopped before they start! You don't have to be one of those people.

"Baby steps and short-breaths, anything is progress" - Steffany Gretzinger

"There is something I want to do, but I don't know what it is yet!"

One of the most powerful things I have ever done was this, looking back at my childhood.

Looking at your childhood could be one of the greatest indicators of your destiny.

You know who this little chubby guy is? This was me at 11!

This is me at 11

See all those knives? I loved knives ever since I could remember! Now I get to work on blades everyday! See the correlation? One more example:

Look at your childhood. It could be the magic compass that leads you right to where you need to be!

-What's inside of you that has been dormant for years? Are you living by what someone said you could or could not do?

-Are you happy with where you are at? You have the ability to change it!

-Do not neglect the dreams you have, they are there for a reason!

-Do not let logic and human reasoning rob you of being the best you can be!
